Newsletter EA Exclusive #18 - November 2012 - Your Monthly MEGA Review on Enterprise Architecture

Enterprise architecture management is for business. This is the motto of EA experts at Raiffeisen Switzerland, a current MEGA client. Keeping this in mind enables you to stay focused on specific objectives and adapt your approach and resources to the unique needs of your organization. Delivering value to the business also comes from the real-time availability of relevant, consolidated information. As Gartner stated in its newly-released Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools, “Used properly, professional-grade EA tools enable improved business outcomes by capturing, integrating, analyzing and communicating information to strategically guide decisions.”

This is precisely the benefit of APM solutions that are now commonly seen as an extension of EAM: The inclusion of APM within EA provides you with the ability to easily share relevant information with executives so that they can make informed decisions for the future of IT.

This is just one of several interesting topics to explore when building your plans for 2013.

All the best,
The MEGA Team

Gradual, Cost-Sensitive Introduction of a Beneficial Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) Program

An Interview with Erik Odenwald and Andreas Siegenthaler, Raiffeisen Switzerland

Read the articleAt this year’s EAMKON, Erik Odenwald and Andreas Siegenthaler presented the Enterprise Architecture Management Project of Raiffeisen Switzerland and talked with us about their experiences in architecture management. Their credo for a successful EAM initiative is: constantly generate added value and showcase it. Stakeholders will support the development of an EAM if they see its value.

  • Stakeholders must profit from EAM right out of the gate
  • Each step must produce a benefit and must suggest the next step
  • Costs and benefits must be transparent and demonstrable for each step
  • The position and planning of the stakeholders must improve because of EAM
  • A strong EAM team must carry its discussion inside and its solutions outside

Forrester Presents: Agility Without Portfolio Management is Impossible!

ForresterAPM programs have a clear goal: create transparency in IT so that it can be used to inform business executives and enable more strategic joint planning at reduced costs.

What are you doing to offset the significant portion of your IT budget that is dedicated to maintenance costs – whether it’s from age, changes in technology, or new business needs - associated with your application landscape?

Is your organization equipped to handle the disruption from the modernization of business and infrastructure?

WebinarWe invite you to join us for our upcoming webinar event to learn why Phil Murphy (Forrester) says APM is critical today and what he perceives as the important capabilities that you need from a solid APM solution.

Where We Have Been

Gartner Symposium ITxpo 2012 – Orlando

OrlandoBy year-end 2014, 50% of global 1000 organizations will support EA as a collaborative business and IT effort. This was one of the key messages delivered by Gartner analyst Philip Allega at this year’s Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2012 in Orlando during the EA Hype Cycle session.

Although the presence of EA professionals was small compared to the total attendance of over 10,000 IT experts, analysts, pundits, and influencers, Gartner still dedicated track sessions, theatre hype cycles, and a specific marketplace in the exhibit hall for EA vendors. This reaffirms Gartner’s assertion that enterprise architecture is a powerful discipline that deserves significant attention from IT and business professionals alike, and is continuing to grow year after year.

During Allega’s Hype Cycle session on enterprise architecture, he also addressed the three specific deliverables EAs should strive for when adopting business outcome-driven EA:

  • Actionable
  • Diagnostic
  • Enabling
